Windows 10 Version 1809: Update KB4469342 v4 Improves Microsoft Edge and Internet Explorer Performan

Microsoft says that with this update the Seek Bar in Windows Media Player is broken. A fix is planned until mid-December 2018 (see Windows 10 V1607: Update KB4478877, WMP fix is coming). Furthermore, the bug in Edge mentioned in the blog post Windows 10 V1809: NVidia hibernation issue & Edge bug is still listed as a known problem. This issue should be fixed with the nVidia hotfix update of the graphics driver mentioned in the blog post.

Microsoft releases the 4th version of KB4469342 (V4) advancing the Windows 10 1809 to 17763.168 from 17763.168.1.9. The new updates get a place on 30/11. Before this V3 and V2 of this update was already tested on Windows 10 1809 OS build 17763.1675.

The Save-MSCatalogUpdate command can receive the update object to download via the pipeline. This can be useful for writing simple one-liners to quickly download a particular update. For example, to download the latest version of the Cumulative Update for Windows Server 2019 for x64-based Systems you can do the following.

The following example runs the wusa.exe command to install an update (windows10.0-kb5003646-x64_ef50cfb8e8067dd27c13ae7c4150d20cb346b3bf.msu in this case) file located in the current directory. This will run the installer interactively and will prompt for input as required.

In the past, Windows 10 received two feature updates per year (during spring and fall), but Microsoft shifted from that approach to a single major update to have more time to build new versions of the OS.

This build fixes several minor issues with the latest version of Windows 10 and includes security patches. Among other issues, it fixes a tracking and device calibration issue in Microsoft HoloLens that some people have experienced. Although people may see an improvement 10 to 15 minutes after installing the update, Microsoft recommends resetting the holograms for best results.

This non-feature update addresses a handful of minor issues, including fixing a problem that caused high CPU usage and performance degradation on some systems with Family 15h and 16h AMD processors, and fixing another one that significantly reduced battery life after upgrading to Windows 10 version 1803, the Windows 10 April 2018 Update.

This update addresses a variety of issues, including several security problems. It fixes a problem that stops the GameBar from launching and also adds support for the SameSite cookie web standard to Microsoft Edge and Internet Explorer. Among other changes, it also addresses an issue in which some systems started up to a black screen. That occurred because previous updates to Windows 10 version 1803 were incompatible with specific versions of PC tune-up utilities after installation.

There is a known issue in this update, in which some users running Windows 10 version 1803 may receive an error "An invalid argument was supplied" when accessing files or running programs from a shared folder using the SMBv1 protocol. To work around the problem, enable SMBv2 or SMBv3 on both the SMB server and the SMB client, as described in KB2696547.

The problem occurs both with mapped drives connected from NAS devices, and with shared folders on other Windows / Linux computer. This bug first appeared in Windows 10 version 1809 and, according to Microsoft, was fixed by the KB469342 update released on December 5, 2018 (addresses an issue that may cause mapped drives to fail to reconnect after starting and logging onto a Windows device). But the problem occurs in new Windows 10 builds as well. 2ff7e9595c
